MAGICO A3 ENTRY LEVEL (FOR THEM!) SPEAKERS

That extrusion will be hella expensive, large cross section, relatively thin wall. Flat sheet is way cheaper, and doesn't bring down their price product differentiation. I'd also Imagine the bolt up construction is simpler than the more expensive bolted version.

Would like to hear these. To date, all the Magicos I've heard have sounded like technology and not like music, but happy to give them another try. Possibly like Focal Arias, these new boxes might be the most musical in the range!

Yes I agree. Except the give them another chance bit !

I would not trust this 'review' as differences they talk about can be tweaked with electronics and cables but it is nice read.
And btw, I think A3 will have the same price as Sopra No2 in UK.

$9800=£13000, try it yourself! www.hifimathscalculator.com

Interesting how focused Alon Wolf is, i had to have a giggle that he spent half his start up fund on photographic equipment, that's someone who does things right with little compromise.

The point the reviewer makes about less noise, or imprint on the sound an alloy cabinet rings (pardon the pun!) true in my experience. Looking at the size, extension and them being infinite baffle, they seem like a good balance for a domestic UK room. Looking forward to hearing them. The only thing that i'm not keen on is the black finish, i know it's done to simplify, save money, etc, but is it anymore expensive to finish them in a different shade, (i take it they're anodized?) or in silver as well as black, or even a nice mid-grey/silver (think the sky in a Sugimoto print!).

now alon the designer will be in london on thursday 8th at kj west one if anyone wants to hear the uk launch of these . 6pm . be interesting to hear them

Never heard a Magico loudspeaker I’ve liked, mostly ‘meh’ and not to my taste, sorry. I also believe that some of them are so complex to construct, they are well nigh impossible to service or repair. Not a fan, sorry. Maybe these will change my mind, hey?

very enjoable day today listening to some nice a3 , worth travelling 5 hours to hear . beautifully clear and yet not fatiguing at all . really open sound which i actually almost preferred to the s3 playing upstairs . the black finish may not be to everyones taste but certainly these are small enough to go in the average front room in uk as sealed box . extremely heavy though . it was good to meet alon wolf the designer of this brand and fairplay to him for bringing such a quality product which costs less than most of the preamplifiers in the shop !!

it was playing with some serious dcs gear

if there were any other fishies there , perhaps they could describe the sound better than me and big thanks to kj west one for putting on event and such a friendly warm welcome from them

I have to say... in system like this, most of the speakers would sound very good.
What electronic was in smaller room upstarirs?

Hi Hifinutt - Peter here, we met at the KJWestOne demo and had a good chat. It was good to meet you.

I am no turntable expert but I am pretty sure it was an LP12 in the S3 upstairs room, and an LP12 with all the trimmings. I agree that the sound downstairs with the cheaper A3 was far superior. I suspect it was down to the nature of the acoustics of the room matched with the wonderful dcs gear, plus a pair of what looked like beautiful Dan D'Agostino monoblocks, and some cables which probably cost more than the speakers. The fact that we agree that it all sounded so much better with the A3s over the S3s when clearly the S3 will be a better speaker, showed me so evidently how the room dynamics and also the source/amp/cables are fundamental to the performance of a speaker. Given that the Linn source and arc amps in the S3 room are no slouches either, maybe it was the room we were hearing give the A3 such an impressive performance? The other aspect was the recordings chosen. In the small S3 room we were listening to symphonic music. In the official demo he carefully chose atmospheric jazz and contemporary music, all beautifully recorded. The only classical he played was Rattle's Rite of Spring from the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from the 80s I think, which is a very well-recorded piece with great space around the instruments.

Whatever, the demo was amazing.

beautifully put peter , it was great to meet you and hope we can have lots more of your expertise on here
