Really enjoying Rubbra's chamber music, its a shame he's pretty much forgotten now. His quartets also worth a listen.

Everything Kamenz does, he does different than everyone else. His unconventional ideas are backed up by great playing.

Altbachisches Archiv, ancestors of JS Bach, music collected by him. Cantus Colln under Junghanel. Very enjoyable double CD

Johann Michael Bach 1648 to 1694
Johann Christoph Bach 1642 to 1703
Johann Bach 1604 to 1673
Georg Christoph Bach 1642 to 1697

Hayden: Piano Concerto in F Major - disc 18 of this 50 Great Recordings box set.

I don't believe I've ever knowingly heard any of Hayden's work before, but I like it!

Mozart String Quintets Griller Quartet on Vanguard. Bought on Richard (Lordsummit)’s recommendation and really rather wonderful. My first introduction to the quintets and they are shaping up to be my favourite Mozart to be honest, they seem rather darker and more intense than I associate with this composer.

Salonen and the Philharmonia playing Mahler 9, on Signum CD.

Odd one this. It plays perfectly on the CDP but won’t rip properly. It bogs down in the final movement and omits the final c. 6 minutes. Never encountered that before.

Today Penderecki Symphonies, the odd ones 1, 3, 5 and 7 on NAXOS CDs, National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Antoni Wit. Some good passages, some a bit boring.

Mahler Symphony 5
Gurzenich Orchestra/ Franz Xavier Roth

Period specialist takes on Mahler, very impressive with incredible detail and no ‘soup’....

Today

Mahler 2 Philharmonia Orchestra Otto Klemperer 1961/2

Mahler 9 Berliner Philharmoniker Sir John Barbirolli 1964

From the 16CD EMI Complete Works box, very satisfactory..

My favourite Glass opera, Akhnaten - 2CDs from the Stuttgart State Opera, Dennis Russell Davies. Some great tunes, early Glass is best. I think that the later stuff is quite unremarkable.

Sibelius 1 and 4 from the Vladimir Ashkenazy Philharmonia DECCA CD box of the Symphonies + extras. Rather good, my system is singing nicely.
