With thanks to Naim, misterc6, Hacker and Avondale here is my latest and best shoebox effort so far. so good I made a pair. They may be untidy and a good decade behind the times on here but sound is great. Not sure why, but I have listed below what I think contributes:-

Fantastic transformers, silver solder, silver signal path (shielded), new speaker sockets, top renovation of napa boards

All in bold guaranteed to make no difference whatsoever

Looks very nice. I'm enjoying a pair of stock 140s with active SBLs so I would imagine these are a bit special. Always wondered whether shoebox case regulated 'baby 135' amps were possible. Some of the discussions previously would suggest that there's too much heat for the smaller case to handle.

I sold my pair of 140s a year ago and regretted it. So I ended up remaking them.
I am sure the Minicap or Hacker capacitor banks are an upgrade if you can do without the 24v preamp supply.
Not sure monos were worth the extra box.
Any info about the heat problem would be appreciated. The amp boards are firmly bolted to the sled with plenty of paste but engineering skills do not extend to a bolt through the sleeve. They seem to run cool so far.
As usual I have done a lot at once, the Goldpoint seen L in my avatar is probably the star of the show, it counts as a "source component" in my view!

When you say plenty of paste i wonder how much you mean ?

You are only supposed to use enough to fill any voids between the two surfaces. Any more will hinder the flow of heat from the heat spreader to the sled & shoebox case.

I think making these small shoebox amps in to monoblocs is an excellent idea. As long as you dont drive cruel loads to party levels you should be fine. Upping the voltage to the boards may bring problems though. You cant really increase the transformer VA though as there isn't room in the case.

My mono 110's were a big step up over a stereo amp although the process included cap 6 board so as always a combination of upgrades.
Further enhanced by Avondale NCC boards.

I've now upgraded to Voyagers, but the 110's get put in now and again

My experience exactly as divedeepdog, be in no doubt, the new NCC220 or Qudos boards really sing as monos with their own Minicap6 boards and dedicated transformer.
