    Cyrus DAD3 service manual?

I'm after a DAD3 service manual and can't find one anywhere. Cyrus, naturally, refer me to their approved service centres for the repair. I just need the MLCC capacitance ratings table. Can anyone help?

    Cyrus CD6SE laser replacement

Just got it working :) Whilst the sled was out I loosened off the screws so only a couple of rungs of thread showed on the screw on the underside. Loading a disc made lots of noise - realised the screw accessed through the pcb, if loose, allowed the rail to move freely. Tightened enough to hold...

    Cyrus CD6SE laser replacement

Hey hifinutt, the web appears to be awash with failed Cyrus stories. Many say it's the only CD player they've had failed on them even though it's their most expensive CDP! I think I'll fix it, make sure it's happy and then sell it on whilst it's got a couple of years left in it.

    Cyrus CD6SE laser replacement

That's perfect - completely understand where you're coming from now. I've routed the ribbon cable via the original path - there's a retainer in the plastic brace that runs across the back of the mechanism. I've since discovered the complete mechanism from donberg.co.uk. From various forums they...

    Cyrus CD6SE laser replacement

Also, how is the sled height adjusted? Is it simply loosening or tightening the screws in the purple washers at the back end of the sled?

    Cyrus CD6SE laser replacement

Thanks Jim, I'm in Brighton - so bit far but do appreciate the offer! Was it simply trial and error to get the correct height? I've discovered it's a Sanyo SF-HD580. Yes that's right - it's the anti-static blob of solder. The solder's all removed but around that area looks a little unclean -...

    Cyrus CD6SE laser replacement

My CD6SE has been skipping recently and an isopropyl clean of the lens made minimal difference. I'd ordered a new laser from eBay (perhaps not best of ideas!) specifically for the CD6SE. I've removed the solder link and installed it but just get disc error when it tries to read. It also takes a...

Crash course in electrical engineering and amp design

Great, I'll check out the web content first then consider the book. Arkless - I get what you're saying. Having worked in IT for 15 years I see the fallout regularly. I won't be doing much with that knowledge but would check here if I undertake a wee project. Cheers.

    Replacement Tweeter diaphragm

Yes, thanks, I'd seen that but bit expensive for a thin bit of tin with some copper winding, and they're non PEN. I've got some other old speakers sat around and if the first went well was going to do the rest but cost may add up. Maybe thats the going rate? They're not easy to come by.

    Replacement Tweeter diaphragm

I have a Bowers Wilkins CDM Centre speaker with a dented cone - beyond straightening out. I'm familiar with the tweeter motor construction and would like to find a replacement diaphragm and coil to install myself. Any ideas where I can find one similar to what's in there? B&W only sell the...

Crash course in electrical engineering and amp design

Hi all, I'm a fairly technical person but I'm not up to speed with electricity and how the various considerations impact the sound an amp makes e.g. capacitance, inductance, opamps, amplifier windings etc. Where's a good place to start? What reading material / website do you recommend?

    Rekindle me

Luminary seems to be product of the moment and offers a free trial. There's also Capture One, Lightroom and a fair few others. I'd say try one, live with it and see what works for you. Plenty of YouTube tutorials out there. Enjoy!

Mulling over raw rather than jpeg

There's some good advice here from @Derek Wright - you could shoot entirely raw and use an app (often free with your camera) to batch convert all of them. RAW will take up more disk space - something to keep in mind. @eternumviti is on the money with not getting snap happy using raw. Because...
