    Moving Magnet Magic!

Of the MMs currently available, the Ortofon Concorde R 40 and especially the Linn Adikt have prevailed for me. I prefer them to any Nagaoka or Audio Technica. But the best real MM (not MI !) I ever had was Shure Ultra 500. I also had a London Reference Cartridge and in the best possible...

Active studio monitors as a 'stereo / hifi' set up

A friend of mine, who unfortunately died much too early, operated a KH 420 A with a subwoofer. However, he lived in a loft with a huge living space. Before that he owned the ATC SMC 50, which he sold after hearing the Neumann KH 310 A at my house. There was a controversial discussion in my...

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

Sorry, my fault. I forgot to tell you that I own a second turntable. ;)

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

If that's what you hear, I won't be able to change your mind. The picture is from 2017, when I compared my SME Model 10 with an original Technics SL-1210MK2 for a very (!) long time. Afterwards I sold the SME. I may be hard of hearing, but then so is Steve Guttenberg. He switched from an...

    Naim Nac 12

Maybe I can answer the question regarding Naim Audio NAC 12 Version 1. This darling is (still) mine.

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

It was by no means just the British audio press that agitated against direct drive. In Germany it was the same, with particularly heavy mass drives being particularly preferred. What was really infamous was that it was seriously claimed that DDs could never maintain the correct speed because...

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

I also experimented with different tonearms. Ultimately, I decided to leave the NOS Technics SL-1200MK2, which I later purchased, original. I didn't even replace the tonearm cable. So there is at least one "MK2" on earth that is exactly as the engineers in Japan thought it would be. ;)

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

Finally I can insert pictures! :) Here are just two of the many comparisons between record players that I have done in my home. Technics SL-1210ML2 vs. SL-1200GR Technics SL-1210MK2 + SME Series V vs. SME Model 10 + SME M2-9R

Thanks to the SME headshell it is actually very easy. Especially if you have a phono preamplifier with two identical inputs.

Active studio monitors as a 'stereo / hifi' set up

The thread is a bit old, but I've been listening to Neumann KH 310A studio monitors for almost seven years. I currently also have original Rogers LS 5/9, which sometimes sound more involving. But when it comes to long-term listening, the Neumann are vastly superior to them.

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

While I'm at it... ... I also couldn't hear any significant difference in sound between SL-1200MK2, SL-1200GR and SL-1200G.

    Technics 1200 MK2 v GR v GR2

I've owned a lot of turnbales and I've listened 600 turntable, tonearm and cartridge combinations at home. Perhaps the "best" - at least in common believing - was the SME Model 15 with SME Series V and EMT JSD-6. Then I bought "just for fun" a NOS Technics SL-1200MK2. Believe it or not, after...
