    Audiophile songs you're sick of

Hopefully it was Totale's Turns, lo-fi decades before lo-fi was a thing. I too got the snob treatment demo'ing an LP12, at Jeffries in Brighton, mid-80s. I wanted to play Joy Division's Closer, which in their eyes 'wasnt very dynamic' and they switched it for some awful 'female vocalist'...

    Butthole Surfers

They played Reading in 1989, on the Sunday at about 6pm as I recall. Truly astonishing, particularly the first minute or so when the entire contents of the stage was dismantled in a wall of noise. I had never seen anything remotely like it, and haven't since. And I remember the singer of the...

    Naim Aro

I just bought a Lifter from Cymbiosis, which if I am not mistaken, is the Elevator re-branded. Yet to install it. Agree that the Aro fingerlift is a tad high and skinny. I am sure when owned a (different) Aro in the 90s I bent the fingerlift to a shape I preferred. Reluctant to do that now, for...

Sensible genre subdivisions for a large LP collection?

You only need TWO sections... 1 Half Man Half Biscuit 2 Not Half Man Half Biscuit I suppose you could split 1 into 1A - With wicked commentary on the music industry and 1B - Without, but 1B would be empty anyway. Eno Collaboration anyone? Or the incomparable Hair Like Brian May Blues.

    with or without banana plugs?

    Blue ones.

    Vibration Isolation Experiments

... records like the Prodigy being played with excessive bass... Isn't that the point? ;)

    Linn LP12 motor questions

While we're on the subject of Linn motors, has anyone installed the plastic standoffs as a replacement for the metallic ones that come standard with a Lingo 4? Or did, circa 2019-20 at least. Apparently due to some ground loop where the TT is grounded both via the arm cable and the L4 power...

    100% Faultless Albums

Heathens all! Movement is the best NO LP, followed closely by PCL, it's all downhill after that. I appreciate the tunes on Technique, but the lyrics are decidedly sixth-form. Anyway, on topic, 5 faultless albums... The Orchids - Unholy Soul Galaxie 500 - On Fire Human League - Travelogue Bowie...

    [FS] t.akustik Manhattan EPS diffusors

Now THAT is the best sales pitch I have ever seen on PF! Can't be bothered with opening the fecking thing, shouldn't have bought it in the first place! Chapeau.

    Audiophile pomposity/verbosity

Is this the bit where we're supposed to make guitars collide...

Albums you wish you had bought at the time

Me too, but then I don't think many eleven year olds were buying it 'at the time'.

    Shane MacGowan (The Pogues) RIP

Always loved this, his strongest vocal performance of all perhaps? The quality of his voice always showed up in the slower numbers I thought, this, Auld Triangle and Kitty being oh so wonderful examples.

    Shane MacGowan (The Pogues) RIP

And that interview with SM where he's berating world musicians from back in Pogues days. "All these people playing world music, African music, nearest they'd ever been to Africa was Notting Hill Gate!"

    Shane MacGowan (The Pogues) RIP

Sad but not unexpected I suppose. Defined my later teenage years. Remember my very first day at Uni, bunking off early to go see them at the Top Rank in Brighton. Bumped into Spider in the loos, him wearing that long silver coat they all had back then. As I recall they always had a 'no jeans'...
