Let me know if you want to give the Velleman kit a go. I got a couple ridiculously cheap from Maplins and haven't had time to build them up yet, happy to let you have one FOC.
Cheers,
Tim.
I'd second going down the SB+ route as I found it a huge upgrade on a Squeezebox 2 with DIY 5v super reg PSU.
According to the SB+ review on TNT Audio http://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/at-tunes_e.html firmware V15 is the best sounding.
Cheers,
Tim.
The obvious answer would be an ALW super reg. From memory I think they can put out a maximum of around 1.5 amps, which is plenty for a Squeezebox. I generally haven't a clue about electronics but if I can build them then I think anyone can!
You can get bare boards (or fully built ones) from...
There are some Autograph plans here although I've no idea if they're accurate or not.
Got the link from this site http://www.geocities.com/tannoy_autograph/Tannoy_Autograph.html
Please keep us all up to date whatever you decide to build!
Bent Audio do a remote control kit for volume and input selection but they appear to be suitable only for DACT attenuators, plus they are pretty pricey!

These aren't exactly what you're looking for but they might be worthwhile.
