    Imaging Resource used to have some really good articles about correcting old slides. The white dropper in Photoshop or Lightroom is a good way to make an instant there-or-thereabouts colour temperature correction if you have anything in the frame that is white or neutral grey.

    Possibly, or are you running an older version of iOS? I stress that I don't know if this is your problem, just suggesting it as a possibility.

    One thing you might try is to go in to settings>photos and camera, in there is an option to optimise storage if your iPad is getting low on memory which might mean down-sizing. The alternative is 'download originals' - this is what mine is set on and I have no problems keeping full res raw files.

    A filter has actually saved one of my lenses from damage (dropped: filter cracked, lens fine) and I like feeling relaxed carrying the camera in light rain / sea spray / crowds etc. If definition is super-critical you'd be using a tripod anyway and it's easy enough to take the filter off!

    That lens is a peach as long as you don't need fast focus, and the camera produces much better results than sensor-size snobbery might lead you to think. Downsizing, rather than downgrading, worked for me.
