Old and new Mini next to each other

It could be worse. The Lotus Esprit had Morris Marina door handles. Famously, the clutch for a Ferrari 246 was the same as one for a Fiat tractor. Same part number, same manufacturer(s). But Fiat agri dealers wanted about £40 or equivalent at some time, and Ferrari wanted £400 for the same parts...

    Wilko about to collapse

Which store(s) are they reopening? There was one in the centre, which was a poor location as a lot of their stuff is bulky and there was no parking outside, and another in Armley which was a great location - a little shopping centre with half a dozen shops on a thoroughfare with parking right...

What does it mean to you to be English?

I'm sure that he didn't exclusively live on beans and HP sauce. he's entitled to his taste of home. When I lived in France I brought in Marmite and proper tea. I didn't have Marmite every day, the tea I did because French tea is revolting. It didn't stop me drinking coffee though.

Why guilt on speaker cables and such

NACA, 4 was made by BICC, it's identical to Linn K20 and is a low voltage lighting cable for military and similar site use.

Your Favourite Album Of All Time

That's an interesting choice, very left field. Brilliant album, ground breaking when it came out, and still good nearly 30 years on (Jeez) but favourite ever, perhaps not.

What does it mean to you to be English?

I'll give you 1.80 Eu if you put the tin of beans back in the cupboard and I can have something else.

    RIP Captain Tom

It rather depends. If the plants indoors are cannabis plants under growlights and the furniture is the sofa, perhaps not. If the plants are potted olives and citrus and the furniture solid teak, then you'd be right. For my part, I've got outdoor furniture that I made from dismantled pallets and...

    RIP Captain Tom

I think he was gen. I don't think that he thought that it would be so successful, I think that he just wanted something to do and a reason to do it. The setup afterwards, I'm with you entirely. What paid for the big house in the countryside?

    RIP Captain Tom

If it's the actual sofa, yes. If it's a piece of upholstered garden furniture that lives in an outhouse and is only dragged out for parties, no.

    Small speakers for loft room

Get a pair of Tannoy Mercury speakers in good condition, Maybe £100 or so. Then, with the rest of your budget, try to find something significantly better. If you find it, sell on the Mercurys. If you don't, you have over £1000 to spend on something else.

Old and new Mini next to each other

Having driven one a good deal, the first comment is undoubtedly true. However it did not have poor steering, as it had an unassisted rack and pinion arrangement. This was direct, free from play, and because the engine is at the back, light. The brakes were more than adequate for the car at hand...

Why guilt on speaker cables and such

Just your standard 2 x 4m of QED 79, NACA 5, Linn K20, etc, to form a Thiele network, isn't it? I remember the designer telling us on here that he went down the "use only NVA approved" cables because he grew tired of the phone calls asking about yet another cable from China that claimed...

Old and new Mini next to each other

That's the one. Don't let anyone tell you that life was better back then, because that car wasn't very good.

Why guilt on speaker cables and such

NVA need 2 x 4m of cable to stabilise them, like Naim, don't they? Restricts choices *a bit*. You are right though, different brands of speaker cables are a flavour thing. What works in one system won't in another because a small difference in LCR will affect the behaviour of different speakers...
