    M2Tech HiFace DAC, 24/384

No luck with that PegLeg - still not a peep out of the iDAC. Just to be clear, I can't get any sound out of the iDAC at all - it's not just a case of it playing once and then not playing again after reboot. Even after un-muting it in alsamixer it is still silent.

    M2Tech HiFace DAC, 24/384

This morning I received an email from M2Tech with a fix to the sound issue on Linux systems. I have tested it and it appears to work - even after a reboot. It appears that something called udev is muting the two clock selectors. To fix this: Open a terminal and type in alsamixer When...

I spoke too soon! PegLeg, if you are still watching this here is what is happening. I install Audiophile Linux and the hiFace DAC works and plays music (with both Audacious/ALSA and DeadBeef/Jack). I then reboot the computer and there is no sound although it looks like it is playing music...

The best system that I ever heard used a turntable. But oh my goodness - the hiss! USB DACs are coming very close to extracting the same level of detail as a TT but with the music coming from an inky black background. And lest ye have forgotten - there was just as much angst over getting a...

Marko Lerota has updated Audiophile Linux (v2.1 now) and I had time to install it today and test out the hiFace DAC which plays fine with JACK/DeafBeef. I'll be trying AP-L with the iFi iDAC next when I get the time. :)

Pietro from M2Tech has kindly been hard at work trying to resolve this issue. He's given me permission to copy his advice here: I tried all that and the results were: Lubuntu - still no sound. Audiophile Linux - still no sound. Ubuntu - still no sound. Lubuntu live mode - still...

I did report the matter to the M2Tech guys and am still waiting for an answer. If I find out anything I will report back here.

No PulseAudio running in Lubuntu. And the ALSAMixer settings were the ones that I tried before. I've just tried playing music through Audacious and Qmmp, and trying every setting I can find - but no sound. I was using the hiFace DAC yesterday afternoon with W8/JPlay, and it was working...

Pegleg, could you please run me through adjusting the ALSAMixer settings to make sure I get it right.

Well I already said that the iDAC was playing OK with Ubuntu - that I am certain of. I also thought that was the case with the hiFace DAC when I originally tried it but couldn't be so certain. So yes, it is all very odd. Three computers, three Linux systems, two amp/speakers, two sets of...
