My father in law was advised (after recent destruction of a number of electrical items) that, in fact, most of the damage caused by lightning strikes was actually due to the "current" traveling back up the earth due to such a massive localised surge !! not sure how that work?
Sorry for the delay, NDX,202,200, Napsc, HiCap DR and Hi-line, Kudos S10 and was wondering, like you, ref power sources for NDX or even, as some have suggested, an NDAC as well as the NDX
Having read the install horrors that befall the heavy handed, I ensured no caffeine or alcohol for 48 hrs so as to have the hands of a surgeon ( yea right !).
Interestingly the NDX end inserted no problem at all, the preamp end required a little patience and gentle applications as opposed to force.
Mike's theory was the same as mine, so picked up a used Hi-line this week, I have literally just installed it and I am very impressed thus far, I'll give it a couple of weeks then change back to the standard interconnect, just to check I haven't just psychologically justified the cost :)

I had a similar noise on my CD5x, it was, as S_J suggests, the ribbon cable, i took the cover off and gently adjusted (bent) the cable so that it no longer caught on the tray. Has been perfect ever since and took about 30 mins being super careful. BTW probably like you there was no reason behind...
