    Naim 202/200DR/Audionote J –– too much bass.

I set up my 202/200 yesterday hoping to ditch the Hicap for financial and clutter reasons but found the bass boomy. It’s the room at fault not the amp as others sound worse and I’ve used this set up in other scenarios successfully. Once I added my Hicap dr the bass was much better controlled...

    Who's heard Spendor Classic 2/3s?

Goats post is an excellent description of what to expect. Also, you mention a full sound which is one of the reasons I chose them over a modern narrow cabinet design which seem to sacrifice body in the lower mids/upper bass region for extra clarity.

    Who's heard Spendor Classic 2/3s?

I own a pair and rate them highly. I took a gamble after hearing the bigger brothers at a hifi show playing techno which coincided with review opinions that they will play anything well and they do. You may miss out on the exaggerated detail some other brands have but they do have detail and...

    Greatest Guitar Solos.......ever

    2.15 onwards always reminds me of Marty’s “Your kids are gonna love it” scene. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    CD player reliability

I have a Marantz that cost £150 circa 1992 thats never skipped a beat. It replaced an Aiwa model at the time which sounded better to my ears but lifespan was a couple of years. That’s not a slight on Aiwa, the 810 tape deck in that system was an incredible thing.

which reference class A, A/B amplifier, under £1k second hand?

I once tried a 2qute direct into a power amp using a MacBook and the volume was unusable. Your setup may be different though. Something like a hugo would be a better bet I imagine. If all you need is a volume control a passive pre could be a cheap option.

which reference class A, A/B amplifier, under £1k second hand?

I’m a big fan of Naim but found a Quad 909 a much better fit with the Kef Model One speakers I owned a while back. Especially if you are trying to tame a slight harshness. I agree with the posters who recommend an integrated or power/pre with the Qutest. Think the 909 and pre would be around...

    Why is Tidal so loud?

Qobuz seems very loud into my dac compared to Spotify. The range on the latter also appears better judged.

    Naim Supernait

I’ve owned both and agree with other posters about the sn1 sounding darker and a little easier on the top end than sn2. The guys in my dealers described it as un-naim like but it was fantastic with the speakers I had at the time and still open and engaging. In short, I think it comes down to...

Cheap pre to replace Canary 601

Sorry, it doesn’t seem so although often appear on the used market. The Creek has a good remote which is what drew me to it. I haven’t heard any other passive pre’s.

Cheap pre to replace Canary 601

A Creek OBH-22 will do everything you ask. I have one, it’s pretty transparent and has a wider soundstage than other pre’s I have owned.

    Back to the 80s...

Because of ongoing building work I’ve been temporarily using my Mastersounds DJ mixer with tone controls as a pre amp. It may well stay as pre when everything is back to normal. Having not had controls on my hifi for 20 years the ability to correct poor masters or tailor to current mood has made...
