Dedicated Mains / Memera / Roy K Riches

There's some horrible karma at work here: somebody resurrecting this thread after all these years! A few years back I panic-bought a Memera consumer unit, and all the MCBs needed to go in it, because I'd read here that they were not making them any more. Last month I got a Sparks in to fit it...

Your headphone & headphone amp history

Oh, jeez, why did somebody have to resurrect this thread after three years? I have just about managed to curb my addiction to all things headphone-related (I can't even begin to list all my headphones, amps, DACs, etc.). Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the Pink Fish...

    HiFi Insurance

x2 for JL, just signed up after being fobbed off by MoreThan to another insurer (my contents had, through inflation rather than new purchases, gone past their £150K limit).

Volume pot on NAC82 no longer responds to remote

Thanks for the clear explanation: I'll summon up the courage to give it a go (especially as the volume pot is now completely frozen, using the remote, and it's the only control I ever want to use from my listening position!).

Volume pot on NAC82 no longer responds to remote

Mmm, might give this a go, but I'm wary of doing anything inside Naim gear (search out an old thread of mine about repairing a CD3 for a tale of woe: I've got the replacement parts but still haven't dared having another go at it!).

    Headline mk1 or mk2?

I can see why the Mk.2 might sound better! Plus, what the pictures can't show is that the Mk.2 board is acoustically isolated in some way (it can be moved slightly in its case).

    Headline mk1 or mk2?

I've read many times that the Headline 2 is meant to sound better than the Olive (Mk.1), but I've not heard the latter, so can't say if that's so and in what way.

    Good news?

No, just someone who didn't check he was in the right forum before starting a new thread!

A thread re-started after almost 6 (six!) years! Is this a record?

Needed: helpful DIY suggestions to get my Naim CD3 working again…

Thanks for the helpful hints, I'll see if I can find a piece of gash PCB to practice on. There's going to be a bit of a hiatus while I wait for the delivery of the solder sucker and replacement 317 regs. Watch this space...

Needed: helpful DIY suggestions to get my Naim CD3 working again…

Thanks for the (soldering) tip (geddit?)! This seems like a bargain, or do I need to spend more? This idea (from Wikipedia) seems like a good un': "Multiple-lead devices require special care in removal. In some instances it is better to destroy the part by cutting off its leads and removing...

Needed: helpful DIY suggestions to get my Naim CD3 working again…

Thanks, for the gee-up, chaps, but I'm not sure how to proceed. I can't even be certain which of the regs I was testing when the CD transport went berserk. I don't know how to test them to find out (and I'm not doing it with the power on again!). And, even if I manage to get that sorted, I...

Needed: helpful DIY suggestions to get my Naim CD3 working again…

Alan Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at the heatsink and see if it's shorting out a resistor, but it's not going to sort out the CD3 now. Snaps taken with a Panasonic Lumix TZ10, macro mode, some with flash, some not: great little camera, really pleased with it (just got it, used...
