Vinyl, Spotify, digital preamps, USB audio, DACs, DSPs... oh my

I got around to building an external PSU for the MM phono stage in the Music Hall pa2.2. It's based on an old R-core transformer I had in the bits box (in fact everything I'm showing you here is from the bits box except the enclosure), a Twisted Pear LCBPS bipolar supply (green PCB), and a...

Vinyl, Spotify, digital preamps, USB audio, DACs, DSPs... oh my

Agreed! At some point I want to try bypassing the digital preamp/DAC/thing by using the deck -> phono pre -> good preamp (perhaps one of PigletsDad's B4s) -> power amp. It'll be interesting to hear the difference if there is one... I'm not sure my aging ears can hear digital artifacts introduced...

Good grief, I think I still have that old box of PCBs somewhere. I'll see about digging it out.

Vinyl, Spotify, digital preamps, USB audio, DACs, DSPs... oh my

Hi folks. It's been a while since I had a chance to fiddle with hifi, and it's been even longer since I posted anything on pfm. About time to change that, I think. The back story is that I've been listening to all-digital music for years now, mostly Spotify. I built my system around a single...

I'm building my son his first amplifier and I'd be grateful for some advice

Just to be safe I'm going to assume the worst and proceed under the assumption that you mean +ve and -ve to be the +40V and -40V power rails (which is normally what +ve/-ve would refer to). Placing the inductor//resistor across those would effectively put a short across the power rails because...

Anyone got some old Wima MKS2-XL 22uF/16V for sale/swap?

I'm finding that approx 25% of the 22uFs are leaky. I put those ones in a separate pile ;-)

Anyone got some old Wima MKS2-XL 22uF/16V for sale/swap?

It's my take on the Dallas Rangemaster treble booster. I already have prototype #1 that's amazing... really, really good... but I think I can gild the lily a bit more using really great components. The idea is to remove sources of noise/distortion except for the germanium transistor, which does...

Anyone got some old Wima MKS2-XL 22uF/16V for sale/swap?

Thanks all, I've scored enough to to the job. Much appreciated! For anyone that's interested, this is what Wima had to say when I asked about doing a run of the 22uF/16V: Looks like we'll never see them again :(

Anyone got some old Wima MKS2-XL 22uF/16V for sale/swap?

I'd take 2, 4, 8, 16... however many I can get my hands on, really. I have use for them in guitar pedals and would love a stockpile for experimenting with.
