good starter lens for canon 5D

re: Tamron 28-75 vs Canon 24-105 The big advantage for the Tamron here is the f/2.8 aperture and price. The big advantage of the Canon is focal length and IS. If she's into portraits the aperture of the Tamron is an advantage, although on the flipside the longer focal length of the Canon is...

OT (sorry) Pentax K-m in classifieds room

Hi, I know this isn't the room for classifieds but because of the crazy timescale involved I wanted to give you a heads up on my ad in the classifieds room. Again, sorry about the spam but hopefully someone won't miss out on it if they were looking for one. andy p.s. mods, obviously...

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3

Limiting how? In my experience with similar sensor-sized cameras lack of DOF has never been a problem. Long exposures maybe, but my guess is that the sensor probably won't even handle exposures much longer than you'd get with f/8 and the sensitivity cranked to minimum anyway. You might have...

    Entry-Level digital SLR

If size and weight aren't of principal importance to you then I'd suggest the K200D over the K-m. I've owned the K200D and currently have a K-m. Aside from size I prefer the K200D. I ended up with a K-m because size is the primary factor for me and at the end of the day I can get the same...

    Photography hints and tips?

Is this true? I'm not saying it's not but I've never heard of it and it seems like an excellent way to get subject blur. Genuinely curious - do you have a link or something to this technique?

    Polaroid redux

Not sure if this has been posted already, if so I missed it. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/smile-polaroid-is-saved-1418929.html

    Camera Porn

The same could be said about the Pentax Limiteds (both FA and DA), and they cost chump change compared to the Leicas. There may well be reasons for buying into Leica depending on who you are, but to me the build quality would be pretty far down the list. The caveat here is that I don't have a...

Is a *istD a good secondhand buy?

A rough size comparison (the difference will be bigger as the K200D is a little bigger than the *ist Ds): Another thing to note is that I found AF on the K20D better than on the *ist Ds. AFAIK the K10D AF is almost identical to the K20D. The *ist Ds is a nice camera, it's just that if...

    Entry-Level digital SLR

I didn't mention it because this thread was initially about sub-£300 cameras. I liked my 350D a lot, so I imagine the 400D is much of the same (missing the dedicated status LCD unfortunately, but that seems par for the course at this level these days).

Is a *istD a good secondhand buy?

If you don't mind the extra size the K10D is an excellent choice. AFAIK it has the same control layout as the K20D, which is one of the best handling DSLRs I've owned. If you're planning on using manual glass you don't want a k-m IMHO as the viewfinder is not up to K10D/K20D/ist Ds/ist D...

Is a *istD a good secondhand buy?

Well obviously photography is primarily about the photographer. That doesn't change the fact that the K20D is a much better camera than the *ist Ds though. Even if it didn't takes better, technically speaking, pictures (it does), it still handles much better. But I take your point, if you're...

Is a *istD a good secondhand buy?

Are you sure you don't want to go the latest/greatest route? I have a K20D for sale, Patrick is after a DS... sounds like we could have ourselves a nice little game of musical cameras :) FWIW, the K20D is irrefutably a big improvement over the Ds in all areas except size.

    Lenses for Cannon EOS 300D

Whilst it's not likely to be useful for landscapes (not often anyway), this is a very affordable bit of kit that is actually useful: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/Accessories/Flash/Flashguns/products/Jessops/300AFD%20Digital%20Flashgun%20for%20(Canon%20AF)-35585/Show.html It...

Is a *istD a good secondhand buy?

Actually, the Ds2 is the best of the *ist models and is definitely the one to get. It still has the pentamirror, but has a slightly larger LCD than the Ds. The DL series is where it all went downhill.

    Entry-Level digital SLR

Cheapest option for the next step up in build is probably the K200D, which costs around the same as the K-m. It's not going to feel like your old Nikon or Contax though. Generally all manufacturers' cameras improve in build, feel and ergonomics on the next step up i.e. D90/50D/Alpha 700/K20D...
