New Naim Powerline Lite

I got banned on the naim forum for suggesting that a captive lead must be better.

Can't believe you'ed get banned for that, IEC sockets are the devils work. You know what they say, 'there's non so blind as they who will not see' :)

Hot air costs a lot these days.

How is anything a rip off which you have free will not to buy?

One definition: "A ripoff (or rip-off) is a bad financial transaction. Usually it refers to an incident in which a person is overcharged for something, or receives goods or services not of the standard expected for the price. A ripoff is usually distinguished from a scam in that a scam involves wrongdoing such as fraud; a ripoff may be considered excessive, but not illegal."

That's Naimies for you, they live in a complete world of their own.

However I have heard from a reputable source that you can improve a captive cable but cutting it, putting a female connection on and then using a better quality kettle lead. I doubt from one of these though.

I have two of them & in their defence, whilst they are 'only' a moulded IEC on a 0.75mm cable, the moulded plug is high quality & noticeably better than the run of the mill kettle lead stuff, the best I've seen TBH. The Naim 13a plug is an all plastic copy of the original PowerLine & only able to take 0.75mm cable (missed a trick there Naim, might sell a whole load more if it was able to fit chunky cable & was sold separately).
How do they sound ?? I used them to replace some good quality Supra LoRad, Martin Kaiser, MK ToughPlug cables on my Teddy PSU's, I don't detect any difference.

OP, I think you believe it is just a plain powercord marked up by Naim to 95 quid, which I agree would be wrong.
Look closer, it's not.

The thing is that it's clearly not just a plain powercord, because it has a specialist plug top fitted. If you look at the variety of audiophile mains leads on offer, £95 is towards the lower end of the scale and after all, this isn't in league with Linn's £50 belt rip off.

So is this exactly the same stock cable which Naim has always used but fit with better plug now? Also has anyone compared it with the old stock cable, how does it sound?

IF the banning claim were at all credible.

Kraus,

Why would I have any need to make a claim that was not true. I was questioning the 'Science' behind the Powerline cable on its release at an exhorbitant price. I could not except that an iec socket, which introduces another connection, could be better than a captive. It'a like adding another synapse in a reflex arc!! The discussion proceeded and I was given a "break".
May I request that you do not suggest that I'm lying. I find it rather distasteful.
