Whats your favourite lines .

one of mine is Elvis Costello . i don't want to go to chelsea.
Line: They call her Natasha but she looks like Elsie .

always makes me smile

I've always liked the verse from 'A New England' by Billy Bragg, 'I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them but they were only satellites. It's wrong to wish on space hardware, I wish I wish I wish I cared'.

And also from 'Annie. I'm Not Your Daddy' by Kid Creole and The Coconuts. 'If I was in your blood, you wouldn't be so ugly'.

Manhattan - Rodgers & Hart, first few lines ...

Summer journeys to Niagara
And to other places aggra-
vate all our cares
We'll save our fares

I've a cozy little flat in
What is known as old Manhattan
We'll settle down
Right here in town

Not just one but a few starting with Burt Bacharach

What do you get when you kiss a girl
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia
After you do, she'll never phone ya!

And some from Hank

Today I passed you on the street
And my heart fell to my feet
I can't help it if I'm still in love with you.

And even the Rodmeister

I suppose I could collect my books and get on back to school
Or steal my daddy's cue and make a living out of playing pool

"Pretty Women out walking with gorillas down my street,
From my window I'm watching while my coffee goes cold ..."

Joe Jackson, 'Is She Really Going Out With Him?'

"Aw, hello, get me missing persons (they say)
What is it that you need?
I said, Whoa, Whoa, I need her so (they say)
You've got to stop your crying so"

Little Feat, 'Long Distance Love'

I don't know the artist or song is it, but there was a punk rock ditty with the refrain

"I don't care, I don't care, I got long hair and I don't care"

Which I like.

Could be by AYLTP or someone like that.

DS

'There is nothing better in life
Than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro'

HMHB: 'The Best Things In Life'

Red ribbons hang in a Tennessee square
Old people laughing and singing and dancing down there
I'd like to join 'em, but I got no money to spare
So I sit here and watch from the porch
Drinkin whiskey in granddaddy's chair

Ryan Adams really is a rare genius

Laura lays on the foot of bed, mimics the news with the telephone cord
Doctor's on the phone, then she hangs up and says; "I ain't never gonna see the winter again"
And I don't know how, but she smiles

"Well I can saw a woman in two.
But you won't want to look in the box when I do"

For My Next Trick I'll Need A Volunteer, Warren Zevon

I do like him, I was playing him earlier, very dark, like the anti John Denver.

Superb song writer greatly missed.

"A mes yeux elle est nickel à mes doigts je peux pas dire"
(rough translation: to my eyes she's fab, to my fingers I can't tell).

From Alain Bashung's song Martine Boude (opening line: "Martine me dit je veux pas qu'on m'aime mais je veux quand même") on the album Play & Blessures that contains quite a few other little gems.

People will always be tempted to wipe their feet
On anything with 'welcome' written on it

I pasted this from a lyric site, but isn't it -

"Well I can saw a woman in two.
But you won't want to look in the box when I'm through"
