Exposure 1010 at the budget end, but it doesn't sound budget to me. Not a punchy amp (like the 2010) but not flat or dull either. Sweet detail midrange and very non-fatiguing. Bargain used.
Another vote for Croft. Had a 25r pre with phono and it was just lovely. Best I had. Also liked an AN Zero.
A friend has a Hegel V10 used for MM and that's seriously impressive.
We use a Sony soundbase - like a soundbar but bigger and the TV sits on it. Really neat and helps a lot.
Might have used the main stereo but the TV is off in a corner and not between the speakers.
Cheap one in eBay here -...
Thanks for the suggestions - will have a look in to them. The 'Sound Burger's is certainly new to me! Interesting idea.
Not sure. The idea is to have one I can just pull out every now and again and not have to connect it to the main system. Plonk it on a table.
Might sound daft too, but I...
Has anyone tried one?
I still have a few mainly sentimental records but no space for a turntable to be a permanent fixture in the current set up (sold it all off after a house move, with most records).
Wondered if hooking a Bluetooth turntable (to the Hugo 2) would do – something like this to...
I've found a significant difference between CD transports in to the same DAC. Same effect with various DACs. Was genuinely surprised at first, being in a sort of assumed 1s and 0s only mindset. Ah well :)
I get a bit lost in it all. Have had a Khozmo and Alps black passives - both lovely with very real sense of transparency. If a bit thin at low volumes. Tried a cheap passive and not as nice at all, but passable. One the nicest systems I ever heard had a MFA passive.
(Also love valve pres -...
I half emptied a demo room at the NW audio show with this as a request a couple of years ago.
Where you hear it on a good system with loads of speaker bandwidth and drive you realise how much other ones can fall over themselves trying to play it.
Echoes my memory of having a Rega (non-R) DAC compared to the Qutest that followed a couple of DACs later - but couldn't compare directly. The Rega was so easy to listen to though and free from any sense of digital edge/noise.
Only a small increase again but feeling like a ratchet and the quality isn't improving. Nor are the right people (artists) getting paid any more I'd imagine.
The Hugo2 sounds better unplugged from the mains (using the battery). A bit more full and relaxed. Have wondered if a LPS would have the same effect on this, or would have on the Qutest.
